Coin Dealer Insight: 1996 saw a slight reduction in quarter production with a combined output of only 1.83 billion 1996 Washington quarters from the Denver and Philadelphia mints. 1996-D Washington quarters in MS-63 or higher have a significantly higher value than those from Philadelphia since this was the first year production was lower at Denver than at Philadelphia in almost a decade.
